MGB engine mounts - "extra" plate?

Having just completed putting the engine mounts in my MGB back in, I was left wondering what purpose the seemingly "extra" 'L' shaped plates that go on the top of the engine mounts serve? Other than frustrating the mechanic (me - lol) when I realized I couldn't get to two of the mount bolts because I'd put those plates on too soon!

Re: MGB engine mounts - "extra" plate?

If their the plates I'm thinking about, their to keep the engine fan out of the radiator on frontal impact. They won't let the engine slide forward, usually no more than a half inch. PJ

Re: MGB engine mounts - "extra" plate?

Paul, thanks! They are on top of the engine mounts and the L points towards the firewall, hanging off the back of the mount? I knew someone here would know the answer.
