Hey all,
Trying to help out a buddy with a 1966 MGB with a driver's door that is apparently not aligned properly. I have not seen it but he told me he needs to pull up on it a bit to get it to latch properly. Car was completely restored- not be him - about a year ago and from what I have seen, they did a nice job. But guess the door is off some. Know how to align Healey doors but not sure about an MGB. Any advice will be appreciated so I can help him and not make things worse !

Mike, 1966 was a change-point, IIRC. Pull-handle or push button?

Actually, on either one the only "adjustment" is in the latch on the body. Loosen the screws holding the striker slightly and see if it will "naturally" move to a point where it latches without the lifting exercise and retighten.

Shims are used for fore-aft adjustment. Swipe a lipstick from mom (one in the <span style="font-style: italic">bottom</span> of a drawer, not the purse!), apply some to the door latch and note where it transfers onto the striker... you want to move the striker so the latch is centered on it.
 
Lipstick will leave a mark! Went to visit a girlfriend once and she found lipstick on my collar, it wasn't hers! I had to do a lot of tap dancing over that! Sorry for the interruption, it just brought back a memory of how I escaped from a near death!

Thanks for the advice and warning !!! My wife already barely tolerates my car fetish, if she found lipstick somewhere you would read about me "disappearing" in the papers ! BTW, think it is a pull handle if I recall. Also, I'm an old MG guy too. Have owned two TC's, one TD and several MGB's over the last 40 years. Took 20 years to restore my first TC so maybe that has something to do with my wife's feelings about old cars ? If I didn't have the Healey I would have a steel dash MGB !

Turned out to be really simple - the large screws holding the door hinge onto the actual door shell were loose. Tightened up and good to go !
