MGB MGB distributor removal

I'm going thru the engine on my '70 MGB. I've got it out of the car and mostly apart, but I can't get the %*(%^& distributor out. I've got the bolts out and all that, but it's real hard to turn and I can't even start to get it to lift out of the block. Must be a bunch of crud down inside around the housing. I tried a WD-40 soak for a few days but no progress. Any old indian tricks out there?

Switch to PB Blaster or Kroil.

Especially if A) old and B) not well maintained, the buildup on internal non-moving surfaces can get to be pretty thick.
I have seen folks drill out distributors.....break them off, drill down the stub, and chisel the remains out.
If the engine is out, flip it over on the stand, and either the two previously mentioned, OR spray carb cleaner up underneath the distributor.
I have had to use that a lot over the decades.
Spray, then twist and pull on housing, keep doing that, as the cleaner works in, the twisting is important to cut the crud as you pull against the cleaner.

Mix up some weasel pee: 50/50 acetone and ATF. Shake vigorously and apply. Repeatedly.

It's THE best loose-juice you can find. Then keep twisting it as TOC says.

Thanks guys. Sounds like some good ideas here. I'll get back to it some time in the next couple of days. Right now I'm spending a lot of time on the tractor dealing with 600 feet of driveway and a blizzard. You know, Iowa winter motorsport.

But, being in Iowa, one would guess you folks are not asking for FEMA to show up and hold your hand, nor a "Declaration of Emergency", nor Federal Assistance to bail you out, right?

Got no need for FEMA for this. Just burn some diesel and keep out of the ditches.

Most snow we've had at in one storm for a couple of years. 12 inches here, more other places. For us that's a lot. Pretty much shut everything down. Temps aren't too bad, about +10 right now.
