Hello, I'm making a switch panel today and I need to know the exact diameter of the hole I need to make for the cigarette lighter. I'm using a CNC plasma cutter so exact dimensions would be helpful. I haven't ordered the cigarette lighter yet, otherwise I'd break out the micrometer. Thanks!

Good point, I did "Americanize" it a bit. For political correctness, it shall henceforth be referred to as a "twelve volt accessory outlet." /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

Back in the late twenties and early thirty's when it became popular to put "Cigar Lighters" in cars, cigarettes weren't very popular to the men folk. Mostly ladies smoked cigarettes and very few in public. Men were the ones who used them lighting their cigars, hence the appropriate term, "Cigar Lighter".

Seems like I shut my brain off quite frequently here lately. The only problem is, it's involuntary.

Camshaft, I just measured two of them, and the OD of the inner housing (receptacle) is 21.85mm on both. The exposed portion of that piece, that forms the trim ring, is 25mm, and the diameter of the retaining collar is 27.75mm.
Maybe you should get the lighter first, before you cut any holes.

Maybe depends on the year? Wouldn't think so.... Stock opening in a stock dash panel from a '73 (a '76 also) is 25mm. This is measuring the actual opening.

Buy, then measure. Better that way....

Rick, I didn't have one removed to measure the actual hole diameter, I just measured two different lighter assemblies that were handy.
I agree, "measure twice, cut once".
