MGB-GT MGB Big Brakes

Can someone tell me about the bigger brake pads on my GT? They remind me of the brakes on a TR4A I had for a while. The casting number on the caliper is 112018 which I think is correct for a B, maybe they were modified? The caliper piston seems to be stock and the pads don't contact the rotor on the outside edge. Not sure I am gaining anything over stock! Thoughts?

I've never had an issue with the standard pad size being inadequate to stop the li'l beasties.

And I've given 'em some real stick on occasion (Translation from British to US English: "I've punished 'em hard at times.").

Is this a street car or a track animal?

To me the car isn't a track car but the previous owner was a bit more aggressive than me. I have only had the car for about 8 months and I am still learning about it. When ever I buy a new old car I go through everything so that I know what I am dealing with, this car has had a few odd bits. I am sure I would do fine with stock brakes but it may not be worth going back to stock. I would like to ID the big brakes though.

Your calipers are stock. Without a pad number or profile it will be impossible for anyone to guess whether they are stock or not - have you compared them to a new set of stock pads? If they are indeed larger than stock, my best guess would be these: https://www.northwestimportparts.com/MGB-Front-brake-pad-set,-oversize-ceramic-d1639.aspx

Necessary, as said above, but it's like using a TR7 clutch disc in an MGB - more area, a theoretical possible advantage, so why not?
