Hey Don -

Welcome and congratulations on your new purchase! I have a '76B as well, not in as good a shape as yours, but since I got it in exchange for painting a garage, it was hard to pass up.

I like the look of the chrome bumpers as well, and was considering the conversion for mine. But then I got a look at Scot Keatings' beautiful B - he painted the bumpers to match the body. (Check here - https://www.britishcarforum.com/bcforum/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=189) Thanks Scot!!

You didn't mention the color of your car, but from what I've read here, the darker color cars seem to look better with the matching bumpers.

Just one more thing to consider as you begin your wonderful new life as an LBC owner!

WRT lowering the suspension, is this a must otherwise the conversion cannot be done or if it's to give a better look?

Lowering is not necessary, but it will greatly improve handling and does look much better imho. Rather than engineer something new, the factory simply raised the ride height of rubber bumper cars to meet US safety requirements of the time. It killed the crisp handling the cars were known for. On the flip side, a raised car will ride a bit smoother.

Hi Don. I've no experience with Morspeed's products but I think they look great and that you could get away without any painting of the original bodywork. A big factor would be which look you prefer.

Have you heard of the Ottawa MG Club? If you're new to LBCs, I'd suggest you join. And there's usually a bunch of them that head down to Montreal for the British Car Week Show, so maybe we'll get to meet.

The morspeed conversion is fairly easy. The front you still have to cut the bumper mounts off for the rubber bumpers and fill the area around where the pre rubber bumper turn signals mount. Identical work to what would be done on a cb conversion. The front bumper then bolts on the same way the original valance does.
The rear is very easy and requires no mods to the car and is easily converted back to rubber bumpers or changed to chrome bumpers. I did the mounting different than morspeed recommends and used 2 brackets made from angle steel that are hidden under the tail lights and then 2 bent pieces of steel that mount to the lower valance and use then uses the license plate as the bumper mounting point. It's a very solid mount.
