MGB MGB 4 cylinder conversion

Ron, If I were you and wanted to go the V8 route, I'd go to a MGB V8 show and ask some of the fellows just what the procedure would be. But, I'd bet that Tony would be a big help in steering you in the right direction. One thing I seem to recollect is, the tunnels on the earlier models are not wide enough without some modifications to receive the bell housing. That alone could be a task in itself. I'm not sure of the year when they widened them. I think your car, a 66, is a narrow tunnel. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. PJ

Back in the 60's I had a 1930 Ford Model A Coupe in which I put a 327 with a Turbo 350 and Chevy rear end... Lots of work but it was sweet... then went away (Viet Nam Era schutff) and when I came back my brother had sold it off a part at a time.... not much left when I got back...

Still not talking to him 37 years later....

Anyway... I don't really know if the Hot Rodder in me is strong enough to take on the task....

Just one of those thoughts in passing... I'll probably just rebuild the 1800 and leave it at that....

Really nice to think about though...

HaHa, yeah, I know the feeling Ron. I still have two old race engines from times past. Every time I look at them I say to my self, Hmmm, be nice to put one of them back in a car. But, that's as far as it goes. I think the wife would have me commited if I did. So I'll stick to the little MGs instead. Safer all around. If you know what I mean.

In high school and into college guys would PAY me to build small block Chevy street racing engines for them......

I LOVED the small block...265, 283, 327, 30/30 cam, FI heads, single or twin Hollies...

And the sound was, an probably still is, music... The low end torque made it a PERFECT street rod engine... The high end wasn't too bad either.... /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/thumbsup.gif

If I had the where-with-all, I'd go to an EFI setup.

Take a look at the Megasquirt EFI controller, available from several online vendors.

You can see an example of an EFI manafold online.
