MGB MGB 1966 Gearbox

Hi there. I have a 66 MGB roadster. Can anyone tell me what the attached (see pic)is? My gearbox leaks oil, from a small hole in the bottom of the casing. Out of this hole is what looks like the end of a split pin. Does anyone know what this is? I've looked through the haynes manual and can't find any reference to it. Any comments appreciated.
 
I do not see a pic but this is normal. I think it hold a spring to keep tension on the inside but my memory fails me. stoo early. Yawn.
 
The split pin is just there to keep the weep hole from clogging with foreign material. Sounds as if the rear main seal or the transmission input shaft seal (or both) has become worn.
 
Now I remember. Good morning I am awake now that I have been under my sink for an hour trying to fix a leak. Thanks doc.
Forget about that spring thingy thing.

Between last & this post had to run to the Depot. The mrs. likes to wash the plants in the sink and give a drink I've told her no and she say" oh whats the harm" "calm your jets". Ok.. lets see I was a plumber for about 5 years and have laid more pipe than...well lets just say more than any sane person would in 5 years of plumbing.
Little grains of sand settle in the bottom of the P-trap and sit there eating away at the brass. A little bump and you know what starts happening from aforementioned fitting. Just about to put it in and all should be well.
