MGB mgb 1927 coil

i have an mgb of 1972 and is giving me problems when i go for a ride as the coil gets extremely hot that afterwards i could not start the engine once again. i have to wait for at least half an hour. i tried to change my coil but still the problem is there. could somebody help me please. thanks a lot
 
Is the coil wired properly? It will run wired both ways. The negative side of the coil goes to the distributor on a 1972. (white with black tracer if i recall correctly) Bob
 
thanks for your reply. could it be that the problem is also coming from the starting key???
 
I do not think it would be the key switch. It could be fuel also. You could pull the damper off one of the SU carbs (if it has SU carbs)when its hot and not starting and see if fuel is comming up the jet tube and running into the intake manifold. If you think its the coil plug the wires onto your spare coil and try to start the car when its hot. It does not need to be bolted on to work. Bob
 
Not sure about MGB's, but, do you guys have issues with internal/external ballasts like we sometimes get on the Spridgets? We will get someone putting an internal ballast coil in and it boils.
