MGB MGB 1800 ring gear

I have a flywheel from an early 1800. It looks like the shop manual shows the lead on the ring gear towards the engine. The ring gear that was on the flywheel had the lead towards the transmission. The teeth on the ring gear with the lead facing the transmission had the lead pretty chewed up. Was this ring gear installed backwards at some point in time?

Hmmm, it might turn out by accident. This is a friend of mines engine (really) :smile: What started this is the machine shop installed the new ring gear per the shop manual, which is opposite of the one that was on there. What might save him is he is switching to one of those small high torque starter for this build. It looks like the new modern type starter might make this work out. I'll take a look at the starters later this week. Sound like it will work?
