Oddly enough this car regularly visits my neighbor and I've never seen the plate on a real MGB.
The crazy thing is that such plates and the right to the designation "MGB 1" can be treated as property and traded here in the UK. Since personalized plates did not exist until recently (and even now the possibilities for personalization are very limited) these have acquired value.
I suspect this registration number is worth several thousand ££££ (perhaps even 10 or 20 or 30K, given its unique connection with a marque- not so much as JAG 1, but still)! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif
I've no doubt that the plate is worth more than the car.... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazyeyes.gif

Its amazing. I just did a search for AH 3000 at an on line registration trader and got "near" matchs of AH 3989 for £4K and 4 AH for £31K! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif
Sheesh... MGB 1 could probably pay my mortgage (well, a fair bit of it)....

Recently, Pennsylvania changed the design of our antique plates.
The new one has the picture.
My question..........If you had a D-Type.......Would you want a picture of some POS ford on your Jag.

Its real. The rear's the same. I've seen it before on this car, and previously on another non-MG, so its been around for a few years and transfered between cars in that time.
As the official site noted below notes all cars are required to display their plates both front and rear; and the regulations about size, color, "font" are quite definite:

Speed cameras are widely used here so I'd expect the police would stop anyone carrying improper plates; and the annual MoT inspection checks these too- though they don't check if its legally assigned just that it conforms to regulations....
When the time comes I intend on having mine painted on for a period look (as you might be able to see in the avatar if you've a magnifying glass), but they'll need to conform to the regulations for that....

When it comes time to register my car I could get a "new" registration that would be comparable with those issued during the time when the car was built provided I can prove its age. Newer kit cars don't have that opportunity and older ones imported were given "Q" plates, as were cars assembled from multiple vehicles.
There aren't any special plates for antique cars- its just obvious that they're old from the numbering systems (and colors too) and how they've changed over the years.

I just had a look on www.newreg.co.uk ... MG 1 is for sale.
The price? A cool GBP300,000 (just over $500,000 at today's exchange rate).

There are a lot of cars here driving around with "plates" that are the most valuable thing about them. In fact, that's likely true of most of the classic "project" cars on offer....
