MGA MGA

Hi Earl,

Welcome to a great forum. The MGA has always been my favorite of the line.

I know little about MG's in general but there are some real experts here who will be glad to help you.

Earl, welcome! Grab a copy of The Original MGA by Anders Ditlev Clausinger.....a very informative book with lots of photos of the various components of an MGA....after that, just ask your specific questions here & you'll get a quick, accurate answer from several guys who know the A very well!

Welcome Earl,

What type of MGA--roadster, coupe, 1500, 1600, Mk II, Deluxe, Twin Cam? If either of the latter two, E-mail me off-line and I will gladly take it off your hands!

Another good source of original equipment info are the free Moss Motors or Victoria British catalogs. Thesse two companies carry British Heritage-approved parts and show the parts in exploded, isometric views by system--engine, fuel, electrical, cooling, etc. The catalogs will also explain the codes included in the VIN and chassis ID numbers--engine codes, paint codes, etc.

Finally, a local MG club can be a great source of information, advice, and parts, especially if you need hands-on assistance (unless you live near Huntsville, Alabama, then you just go see Tony).

Happy motoring,
Steve

Aloha Earl,

A good online source for details on MG cars is www.mgcars.org.uk. They have detailed info on most of the cars produced by MG. The "Original" series of books are also a great resource as Tony said. I have the book for my TF and TR3 and both are excellent reference books. Good luck with your MGA.

Safety fast,
Dave

Thanks for all the responses. Haven't had much to do with forums so am pleased.
Have a 59A, 1500 GD engine. Nothing special but dated my wife in it 30+ years ago and am in a body off restoration. Really interested in originality but am doing a driver so perfection for show is not the goal.
Current question relates to headlight rims. What was on it when purchased in 69 is a much more tapered profile than everything sold as 'original' headlight rims. Any one know the application for these tapered rims? Should the car have had the more rounded rims.
Thanks
Earl

Welcome aboard Earl!! I'm sorry, I can't be of a lot of help, but some of these guys really know their stuff!! I have heard that one of the better upgradesyou can do is putting in an MGB engine!! You can't really tell the dfference and it is a lot more powerful engine!! Anyway, good luck!!!
