MGA MgA

Country flag

today i found a 1959 Mga sitting in a garage , rather rough i might add, but looks to be all there) for 1000 dollars.................not sure i can swing it..... but the gentlman promised me a week before any thing goes down with it.

thoughts comments....advice...anyone else maybe interested?

It's worth it if it's solid, complete and rolling. If it runs, even poorly, it's *really* worth it.
If it's ravaged with rust and/or missing major parts....different story.

Let's see...God's Country? New Jersey, right? MGA parts cars go for almost that much around here...if the metal is solid & its complete, its worth the price...

car sittin on stands...left front suspension rotor and spindle not on car, all body panels there, and appear decent, engine comlete, was running when parked, was owned by this guys wife's father. there is rust, but this is VERMONT. from what i could see of the frame it looked solid....plenty of surface rust.....but even as she sits still one beautiful car. if i dont get it ...it will probaly make ebay, as a single unit.....

oh boy....today my bike sold on ebay....i have a call in to the gentleman with the A. i sit here and wait ..for calls from the bike purchaser and the guy with the A...i want this car. i want it bad. the feeling is any and all things done to date were just a warm up....this is what i was meant to do. me and this 1959 MGA. she/ll have a name soon. they all get one. my midge may go to help with the $$$$ for the A.this will be no slap together quickie...patience and time.....this means a lot of work. Again. but there aint nuttun like the feeling of driving the car you just made Right again, down the road for the first time. Oh what a feeling....

with luck this will all come out right. Please

spoke to the gentleman with the A and he will hang on to it for me. He will be happy to get his garage back. wants it for his Interstate (YUCK).
i have lined up my b-inlaw with pick up to stiff hitch it home less than a mile . not even sure if i can stiff hitch it, anyone done that? also considering a dolly as it may be a better idea, and easier on the car.

SU,

Not sure what you mean by a stiff hitch.

I have towed fairly long distances with a single point tight coupled rope between bumpers with an old tire carcass between for cushion. Two drivers of course.

SU,
Considering that you might have trouble fitting to an odd shaped bumper & that the bumpers are not real sturdy, the dolly would probably be best.

or better a trailer. be sure to pull the driveshaft if you dolly her

Chuck,
agreed ...trailer woud be best.

why is it nesescary to pull drive shaft?

because the tranny will not sling oil correctly if it is not engaged and you might hurt it. on the other hand some people will come and say they have done it and not hurt anything, but I'd rather be safe than sorry. you are gonna have to jack it up to put the front end together anyway

thanx chuck...i have heard that , but never knew why. car all jacked up and waiting for me....sittin on stands already.. And i will error on the side of good judgement ty the explanation and advice

Plus, the bumper of an MGA is not designed to be pulled....I bougt one up in Nebraska because it came loose from a similar hookup, hit a bridge & was totalled by insurance company...rent a trailer!

baisicaly a triangle. with the top point a reciever for a trailer ball. and the bottom 2 points with some kinda of clamping , or attaching brackets . usually to the front bumber. car needs to have all 4 tyres on it. no driver needed in the towed vehicle.

make sense?

your method sounds like more fun. but not exactly legal. and my bro-inlaw likes things legal.

lol....if i have to i will push her home.

well Folks, Today may be the day i become the proud owner of that "A". My bike sold and the guy picked it up yesterday. going to meet the gent with the "A" after 4 o'clock this afternoon.
need to give it a Very Good looking over.

then make my decision. need to keep my head here.

wish me Luck

Mark...everytime I go to look at a car, I get myself into the mindset that I don't need it, don't want it, & that its a piece of $*!#....but, I always have cash in my pockets! &, I've already envisioned in my mind what it could be....plus, I also take my trailer!

....so, repeat after me, "What a piece of $*!#" Then, go over there & bring that baby home!

Oh, check this one out before you go over to claim yours:
