MGA MGA spin-on oil filter clearance

Hello people,
My MGA has one of those Moss spin-on oil filter adaptors. Unfortunately, the replacement oil filter cartridge for it doesn't clear the frame member there, but the oil filter that was on there when I bought the car recently does clear the frame. It's a NAPA Gold 1374, but I'm having no luck locating it locally. Anyone know a site on the web where I could buy one of these OR has anyone else, whose had problems getting their oil filter to clear the frame, found a different make oil filter that works? Thanks.

Aloha Rick,

According to NAPA's website, the NAPA Gold 1374 oil filter is 3.529 inches high, 2.966 inches in diameter and is threaded to fit a 3/4 inch 16 TPI stud. In addition to the NAPA filter, here are some alternates based on cross reference tables:

FRAM: PH46, PH3614FP, PH3816 & PH6016
AC DELCO: PF1212, PF1238, PF2056 & PF2123
PUROLATOR: PER168, PER183, PER211 & PER241
MOTORCRAFT: FL251 & FL782

I would recommend you get a filter with a back flow preventer, a rubber one way flow valve. This keeps oil in the upper part of your engine when it is not running, by not allowing this oil to drain through the filter to the oil sump. On start up the oil pump is primed and oil pressure develops immediately.

You should probable look at the alternate filter to see if it is the right size before buying it. Good luck.

Safety Fast,
Dave
