Can somebody help - I have the MG wiring blues

My 72 B has been running like never before- until last weekend. I made a stop on a beautiful top down ride , went into the store for a cold soda, came back turned the key and nothing. Had to have her towed home.

After several days of tugging on wires and checking for 12 volts with a meter I am thoroughly confused.

My symptoms are as follows --
12.5 volts leaving the battery terminals, no voltage anywhere on the fuse block or key switch ---

what makes this even more embarrassing is I am an electrical engineer and have been designing electrical circuity for30 years.

HELP - any ideas ?
 
It could be so many things. These cars are notorious for ground issues, so that's where I would start first. Do you have the two batteries, or is it converted to one? Check those cables, especially if you still have the two six-volt batteries.

Also, post this over on the MG section of the forum, as more folks will see it there.

Mickey is right.
Start at battery cleaning posts and connectors well, then coat with dielectric grease. Then go to Ground. Clean connectors well with wire brush and coat with dielectric. If this doesn't fix it work your way through the system to the starter. Ground strap from frame to engineer should be cleaned well and coated.
If you do have 2 batteries, convert to one. Those additional posts and connectors are a real pain to keep working. There are 12 volt batteries that fit the cavity for the 6 volt. I think I got mine at WalMart.
