T-Series MG TF 1500

I have been volunteered to help a friend with a spark plug fowling problem on a seldom driven MG TF. Carburetor basic functions appear to be in order. The ignition system still uses points and condenser. These and the plug wires are new. Could incorrect needles be the source of this fowling?
 
have you ck'd carbs for syn? possibly a stuck float? you indicate seldom run. have you run a compression ck? most carbs are old and no one has done much servicing on them. could be worn needle and seats. ? if needle is incorrect unless a hamfist has gotten into works.
 
Probably an overly rich mixture or too much oil getting to the cylinders (Gene addresses both, I think, in his previous response). A black sooty tailpipe would signal either. It also possible that the plug heat range is way too cold. It'd help to know how quickly they foul up.

How seldom is it used? If you mean once or twice a year it is probable that the rings are seized. Take out the plugs, put about 3-5 cc of Redex into each of the bores and leave to stand for 24 hours, after this time turn the engine over about 20 times without the plugs in and then check that there is no or very little Redex left in the bores. This has always worked for me.
