T-Series MG-TD info needed

I have an opportunity to buy a 1953 MG-TD. I own a Austin Healey 3000 BT7 and have owned a '65 Midget, but I'm wondering if anyone can give me some pointers about the TD, such as the use of wood in the frame, etc. Things to look for in particular? Thanks!
 
The entire body is basically wood....we've replaced all of it on my '53...expensive! as is the leather interior....as is instrument rebuild....as is rebuilding the XPAG engine...& if it has its original paint, that's lacquer!
 
Wood rot is your biggest enemy. If the wood is solid, you're ahead of the game. Rust is important too, but the metal parts of the body are not entirely structural like the wood is. The frame needs to be inspected for rust. The rest of the car is like any other as far as things to look for. Good luck!
 
Yep, wood rot and rust are the two big things. The more complete and original it is, the better, as parts are very expensive compared to a Midget and a B. Mechanically, look and make sure nothing is obviously wrong with the engine, as that is a very hard to find thing and very expensive too. Having all the parts is a real biggie though, and it really helps if they are somewhat original. James

Tony, I've been over here for a couple of years, just finally registered last year, and started posting a little more actively this past month or so.

Hap is in Greenville, SC. Depending on which way you come, he is on the way from Atlanta.

I bought some wood frame parts (timbers) from Moss for my 51-TD. After I recieved them I coated them with fiberglass resin mixed with acetone, so it would penetrate the wood. I'm going to try to build-up with body filler and coat the other rotted wood parts with polyester resin.

When I get home, I'll get out one of the buckets from the stuff all my new wood is coated with & give you that info.
