MG Parts Galore!

Tony,

I will be hitting you up for some of those parts very soon. I am getting my garage set up to begin restoration of my cars. I have a very large 4 car garage and plan to place a wall through the center so I don't get dust and debris in the others cars. I need about a month and then I will tear one of these cars completely down.

I do have a question I would like to add an OD to the 63 model MGB I have do you have one in your parts bin?

I've got a handful of checks on desk at home to go to bank...have the Opus sitting on bench ready to package...lemme check to see if your check is among them!

I agree that you never come all the way back! Worked up there off and on from 1972 to 1994, but just took my wife up there for the first time 3 years ago.

My favorite place in Alaska is probably Sitka, the old Russian capital, although it really is hard to choose just one--Homer and Kodiak are beautiful too. You can stand on the shore of the harbor at Sitka and watch dozens of bald eagles circling in the air against a backdrop of emerald-green trees and a sunset-lit volcano sitting just offshore surrounded by a blue sea! Paradise!

Just getting to Sitka from Juneau is really a thrill for a sports-car nut too. Forget flying and take the 400-foot Alaska Marine Highway ferry that goes through a channel so narrow it's like driving an MG through a slalom course--so narrow that the ferrys are the only ships allowed in it, no cruise ships can go there. Ya gotta see those million dollar fishing "yachts" scatter when they see that baby bearing down on them at 15 knots and fish-tailing between the bends in the channel!

Just writing about makes me want to go back. I am ready to jump in the MGA and head for the Great White North right now. And I already have studded snows mounted on an extra pair of wire wheels for it!

Incidentally, NAMGAR shows 6 MGAs registered in Alaska, but I never saw one. Maybe you can find them.

Steve...Today someone on Skye's BBS posted some photos of the highway from Banff to Jasper, the Glacier Highway, in Canada...made me want to head out right now!

Ed...No, I'm not in a hurry because the bodyman will keep it for 6 or 7 weeks!

Well I have the two cars and plan to bring them both back to life. I worked my way through college as a mechanic it might take me some time to get back into the swing of wrenching arround on these cars but I am pretty excited about the prospect. I will farm out the work I don't have the tools to do or don't feel comfortable doing myself. After closer inspection of both cars the rust is limited and most of the work will be trim and cosmetics.

I will however try and take advantage of your stockpile of used parts.

Scott...love to sell you used parts & restorable cars...I just know from experience that, unless you do all work in house, there's no $$$'s to be made in restorations unless you're willing to also repair other folks' cars - which I don't want to get into! Me, I'll find 'em, get 'em running/collect up everything needed to restore & sell to individual who wants to restore....good luck!

I am with you on this. I plan to do the best job possible on these two cars and my wife and we will drive them until we are to old to drive anymore. I definately do not plan to do all of this work and sell them off. I was able to get a tip on a good shop here in Denver who specializes in british sports cars. I am hopeing to get the engines and transmissions rebuilt there. I still need to give them a call and get a quote. This is purely a hobby I have a day job

I was going to buy a small Cessna and fly around Colorado but I will do this first. I am pretty goo dabout finishing my projects so look for pics of these cars over the next couple of years as well as alot of questions about the best way to restore them to thier natural beauty. I am headed down this afternoon to purchase an engine hoist and will begin stripping the first car down to the body this weekend. Wish me luck!

I know this is the MG page and not the Triumph page but.......My 67 TR4A is steel all around except for the two Quarter Panels. Any odd Triumph bit's about?

Winston...only Triumph stuff I have is a set of pistons & liners for, I think, a TR-3...&, some Spitfire top bows (about 3 sets)...there are' however, lots of parts that interchange between the later Triumphs & MG's.

Before you take even one tiny piece off either car get a 100 or so Ziplock bags & a marker. Tag the piece on the inside & mark the bag on the outside, & put it in a designated box also labelled.
Spending time searching for the floofloo valve you took off three years ago is frustrating & a definite waste of time.
(the voice of experience - & I thought I'd tagged everyhting well!!)

Good advice, I pulled the first car into the garage and started to poke around a bit. I have saved about 50 of those coolaid cans with the resealable tops for this exact purpose and I have a black marker handy to label each container. I definately do not intend to search around for the bits I need when reassembleing the cars.
