I'd like to have one to rally the heck out of. I don't know what that thing really is, with the mid engine conversion. Some sort of creation to look like the real rally car, but why the mid engine? That would make the front end awful light for rally use.

That looks pretty much to me like a genuine Metro 6R4, quite an astonishing piece of kit one way or another.
They were built by Williams, the GP team, for Group B which didn't last long, as it was deemed too dangerous. Indeed, as there were some horrendous crashes, one of which killed Henri Toivonen, the authorities were probably right to ban it. The XR4s were of purpose-built space-frame construction, nothing to do with the standard Metro at all. The engine was that used later in the Jaguar XJ220.
The cars that were built are much sought after and still compete today in club events.
 
The original was ugly with a purpose. As for ugly without purpose- has anyone seen the Nissan Juke? Make that Nissan Puke, lol.
 
Wow, always loved them I guess its love or hate! searching 6r4 on you tube will produce some pretty amazing clips of this beast in action.
