MG-B Body kits?

Not to offend the purists, but I was wondering if there are any body kits for MG-Bs and if so, what do they look like. I've done a search and found something about an AC kit. Is there anything else out there?

I've not heard of any. The unibody design of the B doesn't really make it all that conducive to body kits (such as the Jamaican kit for the Healeys/MGAs).

There are "Sebring replica" body kits -HERE- (these are like the original works cars that ran at Sebring and LeMans)

This Sebring-style car (an MGB V8) belongs to my friend, Storm Field.

Here are some photos of the Cal Ace from their website.

There was a company in Canada (began with a "B") that make body kits for the MGB...looked a little like a Mustang/Bricklin combo when it was finished.

I saw one up at UML Summer Party about 1992 or so.

Hi Dave. I've been looking at their little one page site. I called and sent an e-mail, but so far, no response. I wonder if they are still in business?

There was a thread about that Cal Ace kit a while back. Some disliked it greatly, but I think it looks great. It has the AC lines without the Cobra flares which are so common now. I have an idea for a project that would be both fast and light, but I would want an interesting body for it.

Update.

I heard from Cal Ace late last week. they are still in business, but have moved locations. Sounds like the owner was busy with a variety of business and personal issues.

I may buy the information package from them to learn more about this kit and how it is installed.

Owned by a gent in Australia who races the car, I've always admired his body style conversion. PJ

So I had a phone chat with one of the people at Cal Ace. this seems to be a husband and wife team. Bottom line here is that the kit is too expensive for what you get. It is really nothing but fiber-glass parts, some of whcih need some modification to work, especailly with what I have in mind. When she gave me a pitch about "no two MGBs are alike" I got very cold feet. MGBs were built to pretty close tolerances. I never had much trouble fittine doors and fenders from one car to the next, so I took this statement to mean that the kit needs some serious fitment work. And get this, she said you need to cut the fender opening larger to get good clearance on the tires. Shouldn't a kit come with the opening already cut to the right size? $5800 for a few fibre-glass parts shipped to my house seems too high for me. On to the next idea.....

Does sound like a bunch of money for something that's not really ready to go, and is really just some fiberglass bits.

Oh well, another fun project will come your way. Keep us posted.

I was going to suggest a Westfield 11 (or other Lotus 11). Seems a neat car to build. There was a chap here who did one recently.
