The MGCC Rocky Mountain Centre tried to get MG 2006 in Breckenridge, CO, but the board would not give us a firm decision in time to do the planning. So, it went to Gatlinburg instead. Now we are doing MG 2009 (sorry, MGB's only) in Breckenridge instead an all-MG event.

What about MG 2011 in Glenwood Springs, CO? We have the Rallye Glenwood Springs there every year. It has many benefits: central location; access right off I-70; small town with lots of motels/hotels and good restaurants; great rally/tour routes through scenic valleys and over mountain passes; nearby Aspen and Vail shopping for the wives; gigantic hot springs pool, river rafting, cave tours, hiking, mountain biking, and mining ghost towns to explore. Helpful hint: tow your MG behind a 4-wheel drive and drive some of the scariest jeep trails in the lower 48 within 50 miles of Glenwood.

Moab, UT is about 200 miles from Glenwood Springs...what's within 50? Just curious.

I was referring to Schofield Pass (10,707 ft) between Marble and Crested Butte or Taylor Pass (12,000) and Pearl Pass (12,705 ft) between Aspen and Crested Butte. A little further away are Black Bear and Imogene Passes (near Ouray), if you want two of the toughest jeep roads in the state.

One of my son's best friends missed a semester of high school after his CJ-5 rolled off the Schofield Pass Road. He had multiple compound fractures of one leg, but was luckier than those who have died on that pass.

Rick,

So every five years MG'XX comes to the midwest. We're due in 2011, right?

Indy in 1996 - St.Paul in 2001 - Gatlinburg in 2006...I kinda consider those all to be "midwest".

Click on the link imbedded in the Council website and you will discover where MG2011 will be held!

Are the hotels there going to give special rates for the show crowd? Or, are we going to have to bring a Brinks truck along with us?

We have a very good contract with the hotel properties. Less than $100 per night, guanteed three years out.

Lake of the Ozarks Missouri. The Spridget 50 was held there and I would guess most attendees enjoyed the area. Has everything required.

Rik...MG2011 will be in Tahoe/Reno, Nevada. We'll certainly keep the Ozarks in mind for MG2016!

Reno/Tahoe is a little farther than I will drive the Midget. Maybe 2016 will be within my driving distance.

I wish these event could be in everyone's backyard...but unfortunately, they cannot.

BTW...there was a Midget (and its owner) from Florida that showed up at MG 95 in Tahoe...as well as at MG 99 in Vancouver, BC.

Ladies and Gents,

Some really great active discourse concerning the golden anniversary of the Midget! Here's some additional discussion/information that might interest you.

The Sprite-Midget Club USA, Inc. is in the planning stages of "50 Years of Midgets - A Spridget Event, 2011". The first (and major!) step is to determine venue and dates. Presently a group of about 10 Sprite-Midget Club Presidents is hard at work on this problem. A decision is expected between March 1st and April 1st (Yes, we know that is April Fools Day!). Within the next week a proposal form will be available with instructions for download on the website at:

https://www.Sprite-MidgetClub.org

The venue group will then compare all the proposals on a spreadsheet and select the best. If you are Gung Ho enough to dig in and help - this is your chance. The first 5 proposals are already trickling in. They are, in no particular order:

Elko, NV in association with a local car group
Possibly Lake Tahoe in association with MG2011?
Colorado Springs, CO in association with a local car club
Possibly Greer, SC in association with Euro Auto Festival <www.euroautofestival.com>?
Possibly Elkhart Lake, WI in association with Road America?

If you are interested in submitting a proposal please be aware that the major determining factor will most certainly be one or more local people who are willing to take a leadership roll at that location and be responsible for liaison with all local organizations (hotels, car clubs, autocross venues, funkhana venues, catering, race tracks, Chamber of Commerce, CVB...etc).

The Sprite-Midget Club USA Presidents want this to be even more special than the Lake of the Ozarks event was and are hoping to repeat as a movable feast elsewhere across our great country every three years. To that end, we are also accepting proposals for venues in 2014 and 2017.

Okay, you've had plenty of warning - now get those Spridgets ready for the drive to "50 Years of Midgets - A Spridget Event" wherever it may be!

Cheers!!

Please keep me in the loop..OR more importantly CONTACT ME..I would like to discuss the possibility of having the "50 Years of Midgets - A Spridget Event 2011" join us at Tahoe/Reno during MG2011!

Sprite-Midget Club Presidents and all Spridgeteers,

Venue proposals are available for your consideration for the 50th Anniversary of the MG Midget in 2011... Please take a look at them on the Sprite-Midget Club USA website. More proposals are expected before the March 15th, 2009 deadline.

To check out those already submitted point your browser to <https://www.Sprite-MidgetClub.org>. Click on the "Midget 50th" pull down tab and then on each of the proposals... Voting will commence starting March 15th and ending April 1st, 2009 and you all get a voice in this. It is your chance to help decide on this momentous event. Please note that ALL SPRIDGETS are welcome just as we did at Lake of the Ozarks for the Sprite 50th!

I'm off to Reno this week(end) to meet with the members of the Reno All-British Car Club, most of the MG Council members, the staff of the Tri-Properties, and representatives from the Reno/Sparks Visitors Center.

We've laid the footing for MG2011 - now it's time to get started on the foundation and frame before the finish carpentry begins!

This will be another GREAT all-MG Register meet!

I'll post more a little later frfom Reno - America's Adventure Place.
