What is the correct color for the transmission cover? The car is a late 1956. I thought the cover was ment to be body color but I could find none of the color on mine while cleanig. The only color I could find was red primer on the outside, and flat or satin black on the bottom. I did look thru the judging standards but clould not find what I was looking for. Any ideas.

Keith-

That very issue is being actively discussed on the TRA website. I think Frank (angelfj) may have started the question up - based on Mark Macy's comments (and he's seen a lot of covers), primer red/black has shown up on a lot of vehicles. On others, it definitely was body color. Too many in red/black for me to think it was due to just previous owners, so I'd say do it either way and you'd have a pretty defensible argument.

I did manage to get mine off of the car recently and I found mine to be car colored with a red primer underneath....

Check the photo....the car is/will be Primrose Yellow...

Still have some cleaning/repair to go....

Keith,

Have to agree it is a little confusing.

On my two, they are both different.

TS69891LO is black and TS64870L is painted car colour.

Cheers,

Here is a photo of my original? tranny cover. The car had one crappy re-spray in the 80's and I really doubt that there was any paint shot on the interior of the car.

Same here, I have had cars with body color and then just primer. I usually go back with car color if I am paining the whole car. I have just painted black when doing a trans removal.

My '57 had red primer.

The tunnel on my 1958 TR3A has been black since new. But then my TR has always been black as well.

We painted the tunnel for the green TR3A I restored the exterior colour green. No TRA or VTR judge will lift the carpet to check. Judges are only allowed to look at what they can see. They are not permitted to open a door, close a bonnet, boot lid, etc. They can only ask the owner to do that.

The tunnel on my '58 TR3A (TS23,6xx)was originally black in a red body.

Well guys it seems we are all over the place on this one. I even checked out the TRA website for the first time. I'll return mine the way I found it. Black on the botttom and red oxide on the top. I will use something under the red oxide though. Thanks again
