I've done it that way before and it's a bit of a pain. Putting a plant in refractory is a really bad idea. Cans are a poor choice for casting material and propane is really the best fuel to use. The coals fall down when you pull the crucible out. There are better ways to do it. If all you want is a few muffins this method is good enough. For a few dollars more you can build a proper setup you can run all day with little trouble.
