Muffins!!!

I've done it that way before and it's a bit of a pain. Putting a plant in refractory is a really bad idea. Cans are a poor choice for casting material and propane is really the best fuel to use. The coals fall down when you pull the crucible out. There are better ways to do it. If all you want is a few muffins this method is good enough. For a few dollars more you can build a proper setup you can run all day with little trouble.

I've seen a few other "related" YouTube videos that use propane. Lots of plans out there...
I just liked the simplicity of this one.

Neat... and 10 cents here in Oregon!

I just spent the last hour or so looking at the backyard metal casting site. That was fun!

LOL, yeah but the quickest way to get outta trouble is not getting into it to begin with. Seriously though, you don't want to get refractory wet by having a plant in it (rule#1). It's o.k to make a flower pot into a forge (another vid) but it's not a good idea to turn a forge into a flower pot. (at least not if you want to use it again ) Water ruins refractory and it's the last thing you want in a forge (dig the irony man, dig it!:laugh:smile: Stuff like cans and radiators create more dross than metal. Ask me how I know.... While the title suggests just that, it answers the question nobody asked and gives some bad advice while doing so.

"How to Melt Cylinder Heads", on the other hand; is much more appealing.

Geez Billy, I had to re-read the thread - I would never have expected these words out of your mouth, maybe our baby is growing up after all. ;)
