Just heard it on FOX while I was ironing the travel wrinkles out of a shirt....he was an all-around good guy

/bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/iagree.gif Not only a talkshow host but a genius when it comes to 'games.'

Most of us watched Merv back in our grade school days.
Anyone remember Jim Stafford's "My Girl Bill"?

RIP Merv. I watched many a show as a kid. Same for Mike Douglas

I've heard many say Merv was gay - not that there's anything wrong with that.

Merv was the greatest in his time.
Wasn't he married to one of the Gabor sisters
for a while? The Chubby one, maybe?

I'd had no idea that Merv Griffin had a talk show-I always recognized the name from being mentioned at the ends of game shows.

I learnt he had a talk show when Kramer found the set from the old Merv Griffin Show and set it up in his apartment, inviting people over to be interviewed....

William, that reminds me of th' kid who said to his mum: "Did you know Paul McCartney had a band before 'Wings'!? It was called 'The Beatles'!" /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/jester.gif

I would never say that. Ever. Billy Crystal used to tell that joke in his standup routines, then he'd answer (in his old Jewish grandfatherly voice) "What! Son, lemme tell you about that old-time rock and roll group, the G@# D#&*%$ Beatles!"

bear in mind that talk shows were never my thing. I was too young to see the older late night shows (I remember watching Carson in his last few not very funny years when he looked a lot like Jay Leno), and never saw Letterman on NBC. Certainly never saw Tom Snyder, Merv Griffin, or Mike Douglas, even though they were broadcasting at the time. And I've never really watched much daytime televison either (seldom in front of a set during daylight hours). Merv Griffin, to me, was a guy who produced television shows and turned up at awards ceremonies.

He lived with Eva Gabor until her passing in ’95.

I have to say that I will always remember him as he was in The Man with Two Brains. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/thumbsup.gif

I recently turned thirty-three. I have heard of all of those (Mike Douglas included), just never saw them the first time round.

I will say that I dropped in the old "Slauson Cutoff" joke when I visited Los Angeles last April.
