. . . what a heroic and professional effort made by that Captain for his crew in the recent pirate attack!

I hope Maersk gives that guy a raise, he certainly deserves it. Not to mention the Navy Seals.

Moral of story: don't mess with professional seafarers, they're one tough bunch!

Let us raise a glass to them, heroes all! :yesnod:

vagt6, here, here! yup they all did a spectacular job, my dad went into the merchant marines just before we entered w.w.11, at age 15 or 16, then u.s. navy distroyers, they are some tought suuma-beaches!

Amen to that!

Today's pirates are well-armed, well-financed, and well-outfitted. Got to really admire - and praise - the merchant marine who willingly work in some pretty bad conditions.

Just watched an interview on the evening news. One of the Maersk Alabama crew was asked how they managed to keep the pirates from taking over the ship.

"We're American seamen, we're union members, we stuck together and we did our job."

Now THAT is something we can all be proud of.

It is certainly a good feeling to know our skies and oceans are plied by such able captains as we have seen on the news in recent times! Nice to see some unsung heroes in the spotlight, even though it takes "bad news" to create the good news!

I watched the episode of the "Daily Show" where they talked about this... of course their comments gave me a good chuckle...
