This is Virgil Exner's idea of an improvement.

The Mercer-Cobra. A 289 Cobra re-bodied to look like this.

Not much of an Exner fan... blech.

I must be in the minority then.....I have the model of this car and would certainly make a space in my garage if it was offered to me....guess I'm warped that way...

More info... www.madle.org/emercer.htm

Definite C-2 Corvette influence from the windshield back; especially the rear end (from the side).

I'm with you, Pete. But then, I've always been warped...

Yeah - apparently I've lots of 'em!

Okay, here's the view.
Originally, Cobra's came with AC or AC inspired Brit bodies. Classic in every sense, purposeful, successful.
There is no difference in re-body-ing a Cobra than there is an MGTC. Both kill the originality and function.

AC didn't inspire much about the Cobra body. They got it for the Ace, pretty much unchanged, from John Tojeiro , who in turn based it on a Ferrari Barchetta design.

No matter, it's the way they came, not some body-by-fisher angular detroit drop on.

From a direct conversation with Carrol, his primary interest in the AC ACE was for Tojeiro's chassis, not the body.

Can you imagine flogging that Exner-designed batmobile around Watkin's Glen?
He may have liked the chassis, but it certainly didn't last long once he got hold of a 427.

Excessive torque issue, y'say?

"C'mon babee, let's do th' twist..."

I think I prefer the grille on this marque:

A Mercedes-Benz ponton, entering Swaziland, 1962.
