I went on a business trip to Scottsdale this week, on the way ot the airport we stopped by Old Town, a shopping/eating etc. area. My jaw dropped and I made some inarticulate sounds when I saw this car being parked on the street. Mostly ladies milling about, but they were stopping to snatch photos of it. The new version of this car, the Mercedes SLS AMG or whatever it is called was parked about half a block away, nobody was giving it s econd look (though I think it is a handsome car, it doesn't hold a candle to the original).

I don't think this is the first time I have seen a 300SL in the flesh, but I am quite sure it is the first time, and probably the last, that I will see it parked on a public street.

My only regret is that I only had the crappy camera phone, the car was still there after we ate lunch, as I look at the photo the guy didn't even park within the lines!!

P.S. additional drool factor if you are into this kind of thing, looked inside, it had the special fitted luggage behind the seat.

That, gentlemen, is an automobile.

Disgusting! Totally disgusting! (That he has it instead of me)!:cryin: PJ

Nial, When I was a kid out in the car with mom and dad, we were in Mt. Holly, NJ on Rt 38 and were passed by a new Tucker! It had a neon sign in the rear window saying,"You were just passed by a Tucker"! Only time I've ever seen one on the road and it was brand new. That was a great car, so good that the big boys did everything they could to get it off the market! And they did! Money talks. PJ

Those are such impressive cars to see in person. Saw one a year or so ago at a local shop -- shop owner is a MB specialist from the old school. It was up here for some service or other. Stunning, was stopping traffic as folks had to stop for a look, me included.

Definitely an eye catcher, lots of modern expensive machinery in the same area as the 300SL, includes Mercedes, Porsche, Ferrari, Tesla, nobody was too interested in anything but the Gullwing. Mostly older ladies shopping, but they were stopping to snap pictures.
