Is it possible to search for a member using their real name rather than their forum alias? I just found out that a prior owner of my car is still active in LBCs, and I'm wondering if I can find him here.

Or is the best way just to post a new thread and say "Hey, [full name], are you on here?"

For some reason I feel like shouting their name on a forum has privacy implications ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ

Unless they used their real name as their forum name, then unfortunately no. Even when a member registered they are not required to provide anything other than a "user name", which can be their real name, but 96% of the time is is not. If you know what kind of car it is, you might try a "advanced search" of the specific forum for that car type, then search for a keyword = to their first name. (Some people will sign their posts with their names). Just a thought.

Good tip Basil, that did the trick (I think)! His location matches, and the car list in his signature indicates that he previously had the model in question.

And yes indeed he is at least lurking -- "Last spotted Monday." PM sent.

Thanks!

You could send him a Private Message to confirm it's him.

Yep, PM sent and reply received; he is indeed the one I was seeking. And even more friendly and helpful than I had hoped :D
