Meguiars NXT

Seems like a lot of people were going all pale over the Meguiar's new NXT products, so I decided to give it a try.

First reaction: all the "easy on easy off" hype isn't that big a deal. It's no easier than Meguiar's #20, but still is pretty easy and forgiving to put on and take off. Shines great, and is very slick on the paint (seems to resist finger prints too as I did a lot of testing of that slickness!)

For one reason or another I haven't finished the whole car, but here's part of the MG prepped with NXT Tech Wax:

For comparison here's part of last year's detailing series taken in almost the same lighting conditions. The first image was taken last August after washing the car in Dawn, polishing with Meguiar's paint cleaner, polishing with Meguiar's #7, a coat of Meguiar's #20, and a final topping of Meguiar's #26. The second picture is the same car with NXT Tech Wax (with just a wash, no additional polishing - and it hadn't been waxed/polished since last August):

PS: The only thing I absolutely, positively cannot stand about NXT is the bottle it comes in. No offense to John Loftus if had anything to do with it, but it's hideous. I realize the shape probably was a marketing scheme to give it a "next generation" look (whatever that is), but Meguiar's would be doing themselves a huge favor by putting it the bottle the professional products (#20, #7, #26, etc) comes in.

I printed off your comments and when I have a moment or two I’ll run it across the street to Maguire’s, they are very receptive and great folks to deal with, especially on St. Patrick’s Day. LOL

I have issues with some of their packaging too, so I’ll use your input and comments along with mine, but… their packaging for the product is already done, and having a bottle designed and made is an expensive propisition, but maybe in the future...

I like their products, and sure I use others makers products too but I feel that Maguire’s gives you the biggest bang for your buck on the market today. The are good corporate neighbors and truly serve the quality car finish market & larger community with integrity and care. You just cannot ask for more from a company today.

Jim:

I've always been pleased with their products. Like every product line and company you get some things you like, some things you don't. I used nothing but Zaino on the MG for awhile, then saw some interesting results from some of the more dedicated enthusiasts. I've been using the #20/#26 combo on the Miata since late last year and it has been the most amazing looking and long-lasting combo I've had in a long time.

Nice stuff, give them my regards

Aerog,

I usually stop with the Meguiars #20 step. Is the additional #26 step really a big improvement?

I'm not sure I'd say big improvement but it does give you a different look. Topping with a top quality wax such as #26 gives a little added depth and richer color. Some people favor other waxes of course, Pinnacle Souveran is a favorite, as is P21s and of course hi-tech yellow wax (#26).

Right now I think the whole point might be moot anyway; while a lot of folks maintain the "finish it with wax" procedure, just using NXT right now looks as good - or better than the whole process I outlined last year. I just finished a second coat (as per a recommendation from someone that works with Meguiars) and the car just absolutely shimmers.

Hey Scot,

Thanks for the tip. I went searching for Meguiar's "NXT Generation Tech Wax" & finally found some. Kind of expensive. Not many stores in this town have even heard of it & even less have any in stock.

It is one of the easiest to apply & buff that I have tried. No white residue either. The shine is really great also. I don't know how long it will hold up but it is so easy to do that I don't care if it doesn't last forever.

As you may guess, waxing a car is my least favorite thing to do.

Thanks again,
D

I'm with you "D";

I'd rather drive than tinker and polish any day.

I like for the JH to look good, so I have it detailed and polished by a pro and I do touch ups. That way it always looks good and it's easy to maintain. I have a pro in the family, he does it for beer and pizza, he works cheap!

He is a detail specialist who works on rare cars, he works for museums like The Peterson’s and is really a pro, just watching him work is a learning experience. Not that I'm inclined at all, I'm just not going to "floss" around the grill emblem, but I can keep it clean and shinny.

Aerog:

I gave the NXT a try...it works great...no dusty residue...and the shine is super...I'm showing my car tomorrow at a local car show...so it will be interesting to hear what folks think of the shine...

They close down the circle in the City of Orange (Sunday) which is the heart of the town...and around 300-400 cars are on display...last year there were only 3 or 4 LBC's in the show...mostly modified "princess" 30's and 40's hot-rod Fords...however there are bunch of real interesting oddballs included...

Glad you like it Henri. Let us know how the show goes!

You're not going to believe it...I won! Best Sports Car! The car really, really looked good...the paint job blazed!

WOW...!

Terrific! Another good report about NXT then

Ok now confession time... I decided to "top" both the MGB and the Miata with Pinnacle Souveran (paste, not liquid). I tried a couple of panels on the Miata first and the results were interesting: PS on top of NXT made the dark green really pop out and show better than the NXT alone. The shine was about as good, but deeper.

So...I tried the MGB and I think the red really glows a little more. The effect is subtle and I'm not sure which one looks better, but it's something to try.

I've heard of people putting NXT on top of carnauba wax (doesn't make sense to me but...) with great results too.

I believe it Henri. Your car looked great before the NXT.

PC.

I do too. Henri, was the April 8 picture in your new sig line before or after NXT?

Your car looked great before the NXT

Thank you...however there was a 55 Jag there that was awesome...I think the most beautiful car I've ever seen...so I was shocked...and very much surprised...

I think I won because the Jag was a "princess" and not a "driver"...and I think the judge liked that my Helaey was a driver...almost all the cars there were "showroom" models...

Before!

I'm entering another show in two weeks (a Concours)...so I put another coat of NXT last night...one word...WOW!

The best part is no white powder when I'm removing the wax...and it comes off very, very easy...

Thanks...what a great tip...one of many that I've had from this forum...

If anyone is looking for NXT try Walmart. They're stocking it (quite a lot of it in fact) at the local Walmart, along with NXT Protectant (which is getting good reviews too), and NXT spray wax (mixed reviews). I didn't see any NXT Car Wash but I'm sure it's on the way.

Hey thanks for the tip Scott......I would never have thought of Walmart, wonder if Sams Club might carry it?

According to their website NO, but a pack of polish, protectant, and wash would be a neat idea.

This is one of big attractions to NXT by the way. Seems like a lot of people are really impressed by it and it's being stocked by all kinds of neighborhood stores.

I picked up a bottle of "protectant" this morning and tried it on the lawn mower tires. Went on great, smells good, looks pretty good, I'll see how "glossy" it is after it dries a bit. People have been impressed with it so far-we'll see!

Wow...isn't that taking the whole concept of clean wheels to the next level...your lawn mower...you might have just created a new market... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif
