Meeting: NW Org of Spridget handymen-in-transit

I've been using FOTOSIZER (https://www.fotosizer.com/) and setting it at a percentage. More flexible than the Microsoft Power Toy resizer and still free.

RichBall and Billm invited me up to this meeting.

Weather permitting, I'll drive up my '79 Midget from Olympia.

Should I bring jack stands and floor jack in case we run short on them?

Right now, the only thing I like to do to my car is futz around with the carbs -- HS2's... I think the float on the forward carb might stick from time to time. I think I'm going to bring new float needle/gasket kits for them just in case.

Looking forward to meeting some of you again and some for the 1st time. Forecast for Sat Oct 1 calls for 63° and 30% chance of rain.

Well it will be the right place to get carbs some attention for sure!

If you'd like, you can join up with us as we pass thru Olympia. Phil S. is driving up from Portland to Kelso, planning to arrive around 07:00 here. We should be in Oly around 08:00, and stopping for gas the the Chevron Fife (the one you can see at exit 138(?) around 08:40. .. Of course PSJ's place isn't too hard to find if you want to go on your own schedule...

See ya there...

Hey Rick, besides the muffler, should I bring an Orbital Polisher? want to see what we can do to sparkle your new paint?

Hi Bill,
Yeah, but my bonnet needs a respray due to all the stones it caught on the trip. At any rate seeing how it can shine would be really nice.

The main thing I was hoping to do was connect up the new wiring harness you built for me, BillM said that with a torch and some salvaged wiring from my parts car we could get all the connectors we would need. I'm having trouble locating the new torch I bought last spring but maybe Phil has one we could borrow. If you think of a better idea I'm all ears.

Oh yeah, my STEBEL should arrive tomorrow - hooking that up would be fun!

Brian (see I got the name right this time),

As far as the weather goes it sounds like it will be a lot like it was when we did this back in February, rain, sun, wind... It's all good at Phil’s house; he has the potential of four garage spots if needed and four more drive way spots if the weather holds. You might bring your jack stands if you think you might need them. I always bring my floor jack and stands, but I'm a lot closer to Phil's than everyone else so it makes sense. Glad to see you'll be able to make it up.

Rick,

What kind of touch do you need? I have a micro and a propane one and I know Phil has a propane one also. I also have an Oxy-Acetylene rig available, but I don’t think you’ll need that. Just let me know.

Any other tool needs anyone? Speak now...

Just a common propane torch is all that is needed for Rick's connectors.
I'll bring one too.
BillM

Ohhh, all the big boys are going to play with fire, LOL.

Great - I'll pull some wiring from my parts 'store' and see if I can locate my roll of solder.

Sounds like a good time will be had by all for sure!!

That's the only kind I have - now, where is it???
I'll find it or go and buy some more - one or the other!

OK, so I've got a Harley Muffler, Orbital polisher, pads, polish, FC stickers, HS4 carbs with manifold, and assorted tools loaded in the trunk. .. 85, 86 relay pinouts are the coil and 87/30 are the contacts..

"if the weather holds"
c'mon, I thought y'all have webbed feet up there. Sounds like some of you Nor'westers have gotten soft since my days in Eugene. ;o}

Really I'm just jealous of you guys.

Gooooooo Ducks!!
Phil

Hi all! Just getting caught up on the conversation.

I have two floor jacks and a good number of jack-stands; jack-stands would likely be more useful to bring.
Torch: yes, I have a propane torch, and a soldering iron, and at the MG meet at Reno this year, I picked up a really nice crimper with jaws specially sized for our bullet connectors. My propane torch has a promotional illustration of Bruce Jenner, from the 1976 Olympics; so I'm not sure how much gas it has left. A spare would be great to have on-hand.

Food! Food! Food! And of course coffee (!) and beer(!). I'll plan on getting a dozen of my favorite Isernio Italian sausage, with buns and condiments, for grilling; and will have a plentiful supply of beer and coffee. Some non-meat (I.e., fruit and vegetable) options would be nice to have; along with soft drinks, etc.

I think that's it! My dad will be over as well - we'll be finishing up some nearside rear hub repairs (I hope).

Looking forward to seeing you all!

Phil

Not sure if there will be a need, but if any 1500 owners are short on any gaskets for a project tomorrow, reply here. I have extra oil pan, cork valve cover, exhaust/intake, thermostat gaskets and some others, too, if needed.

I am going to say it early. A great time was had by all. shucks.

OK, we did it. There was a laundry list of things being done at any one time, but nobody seemed to have MAJOR issues or tasks to accomplish. We worked on PSJ's rear brakes, Rick B. mounted an Italian air horn. We threw and orbital polisher at his hood to see how much buff we could put on a Krylon paint job, Brian had some work done tuning and timing his blue car, and one car was brought in with "engine noise" that turned out to have been terminal. Brews, Brats, and good times were had by all. Phil S. drove up from Portland, meeting me in Kelso, and then we caravaned to Olympia and got Brian for the last 70 miles or so in. I stayed in Fife for the night but Phil drove all the way back home for a round trip of nearly 400 miles. He found out that his hard top leaks at the top of the windscreen. Go figure. ...

Below, PSJ and Bill M. consult the manual in Phil's "upper" garage

Boy that green paint can get shiny!!
Hey - it's Dupli-Color not Krylon!
Not that there's a lot of difference, but at any rate the polisher really brought out the shine.
Pythias (Bill L) also brought up a Harley muffler for me.
Not a shorty, but a Screamin' Eagle about 24 inches long.
I just put it on the car and went out for a test run.
Man that's got a low voice to it, especially 1st through 3rd gear.
I really like it and the chrome makes the back of my car look a lot better too.

It was good to see new guys at this get together, hopefully this is a trend and there will be even more next time. In all I think there were 8 to 10 Spridgets in attendance.

We were planning on doing more wiring on my car, I had grabbed a spare harness to unsolder ends from but when I got there and looked at it I thought it would be a waste to butcher it up and thinking about the new bare tub I'll be getting sometime soon I thought I'd save it for that - building a 72 RWA Midget up from a bare tub, parts will be needed!!

Thanks to Phil (PSJ) for hosting and cooking, again!

I can har(d)l-e-y wait to hear what that thing sounds like. I know it's a replacement for the stock ones on Harleys. I picked it up at a shop nearby not knowing if I would like the sound of my "shorty" when I went to the muffler shop.

We had 15 folks show up- probably a record!
Many thanks to Phil for hosting us and hopefully we can all do it again soon.
It was great to get many new folks, glad that you all came.
(and Phil and I really didn't NEED the manual!! it was a "set-up"!!, REALLY!!)
BillM
