I am transfixed, watching the President award Army Staff Sergeant Sal Giunta the Congressional Medal of Honor. And by the way, I have seen news accounts of his "winning" the MOH. One does not "win" the MOH, one earns the MOH. Just a minor pet peeve of mine.

I understand completely where you're comming from. I agree, it isn't a contest.

I think that term may stem from "winning" a war. When you think about it, all other awards are "won" too.

You are correct, "won" implies everyone else lost.

What I want to know is why is it a pentagram?

Watched it as well, A shame the people reporting haven't a clue it ain't some kinda contest. At least not one most folk could survive. This guy is a humble, dedicated gentleman. I heard him in an interview yesterday and he's charming as well. He'll be a credit to the CMH and all who serve(d) along side him.

Watched the before mentioned Vid and was emotional during it. Sent it to the rest of my Family

Here's some info behind the symbology and heraldry of the medal.
