'Tis certainly a sign o' the times! Paranoia strikes deep!

What I don't understand though, they put those things up in 10 cities...Are Bostonians just more alert or more paranoid than the other 9 cities, which had NO reports of "suspicious objects"?

Bostonians are not more alert or paranoid--it's been statistically proven and documented that they just don't watch enough TV cartoons.

Regards,

Ever since I heard about this I wondered why the heck a few signs can cause so much panic. I figured they stuck these signs up and the next morning everyone started going crazy. But then I heard a little more information: not only did they get a call about one sign, they apparently got calls about several signs all on the same morning. Someone on TV suggested that maybe after 10 days of nobody noticing the signs someone involved with the advertising campaign decided to call and stir the puddin'. I suspect that may be what happened.

I don't think this is a case of everyone being on edge because of this "day and age". Back around 1989-1990 I remember driving home in Virginia and seeing lights reflecting off a high thin cloud layer in the sky. My drive was about 45 minutes long so I got to see these big lights flashing across the sky over and over again. As I got closer to home I noticed there actually were several lights spinning around in a circle (even more obvious as the clouds were getting lower). If you haven't guessed yet, the lights were from those spotlights they set up for business openings.

The next morning those lights were a big deal in the news: the 911 lines all around Virginia and Maryland were jammed with panic stricken people reporting strange lights. Turns out they were opening a couple new McDonald's restaurants and thats where the lights came from.

Of course if we need a little more of a history lesson, let's not forget what happened in Grover's Mill NJ in 1938.

Things haven't changed all that much.

They're on ebay - $200 to $4,000!

Is this a great country, or what??

Am I to assume there is an active group collecting hoax/faux bombs?

Wonder what the headlines will be when they charge Ted "mouth of the south" Turner with a crime against the people of Boston.

<span style='font-size: 8pt'><span style='font-family: Courier New'>"Authorities said some of the objects looked like circuit boards or had wires hanging from them.

The first device was found at a subway and bus station underneath Interstate 93, forcing the shutdown of the station and the highway."</span></span>

I'll leave it to the people of Boston to explain why these things caused such a stir, but it sounds to me like they ought to be congratulated for being observant and then taking the time to notify authorities without leaving it for someone else to do.

Still haven't heard a word from other places besides Boston though!!!??? I guess no-one was suspicious in any of them!

Think Seattle said it was no big deal; Chicago police questioned the guys who were putting them up & released them; San Francisco found theirs last week & it was no big deal.

....guess they just don't have a sense of humor in Boston.

maybe it's the irish in boston that are a little paranoid

Haha, they had been up for four days.

Can anyone spell "P-U-B-L-I-C-I-T-Y"? /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif CNN (Turner Broadcasting) has not stopped covering this "story" for their sister station!!!! Do you think they might have blown the whistle on themselves, and Boston was the only city to bite the bait?? Oh well, the Emergency Responders needed an excercise to keep them sharp anyway, right?, even though Turner and not the tax-payers should foot the bill now that everyone has heard of their dumb cartoon show that sells junk-food to kids!! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/mad.gif
