Measurement of 1500 Dipstick?

Can anyone measure their 1500 Spitfire dipstick for me?

I've misplaced the dipstick for my 1500 engine (in my 1500 Spridget)and I'm heading to a race tomorow (Summit Point).

On my car, I've threaded the dipstick hole and I usually screw a plug in (this prevents oil weepage when racing).
But I still use a normal dipstick to check the oil.....and I can't find the darn thing.

I need the distance from the "stop" area (where the felt seal is), to the "Full" mark.
I'm *thinking* it's 5.25" or so, but I'm not sure.

Thanks!

I just checked my 1500. From the bottom of the felt seal to the top dipstick line (i.e. Full) is 4-7/8". From the bottom felt to the next line (the 'Add' line) is 6".

And from the bottom of the felt to the end of the stick is 7".

Perfect!
Thank you very much!
I got a slightly different answer from one of the other guys here, but it's really no big deal as long as I'm reasonably close.
I'll use the average of the two numbers and I'm sure I'll be fine.
I'm just going to use a piece of 1/8" wire to check the level (and I bet I find the darn dipstick next week when I don't need it!).

If you can't find it let me know. I should have an extra one laying around. Finding it though may be like your situation!

mine is really different. felt seal-cap is 7 in-top measurement line is 2 & 1/2 from bottom. lock is 5 inches. Randi /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Does sound a little different. Measuring from the bottom of the dipstick to the top line on mine is 2-1/8, versus 2-1/2 on yours. Are you measuring to the top 'Fill' line, or to the point where the 'lock' side of the stick stops and the single-side continues? If I measure from the bottom of mine to the point where the locking side stops, that is 2-1/2".

I think the key measurements are top-down, the distance from the bottom of the felt seal to the "Fill" and "Add" lines, because that relative length from the seal will determine how far these lines (and the space between them) sit in the sump, and therefore will give you some more or less accurate idea of how much oil is there.

None of this is really very exact, I expect.
