Picture from my front door moments ago - So much for my wife's Sorority meeting she had been planning here all week!

But this is nothing compared to the pounding in the northeast! I hope our member up in that area are all ok - I heard a million or more without heat or power!

In DC that would be a catastrophic event. Send it down here, I could use a laugh

Basil.....keep it there. At the moment its 60 in Clovis....but the wind is howling and temps are dropping. I'm cramming all the cars in the shop and keeping the truck and Durango out just in case..and I think I'm one of two sno-blower owners in the town:smile:

:banana:There is a bright side esteemed leader - the candy canes won't melt and get sticky!!!

Active volcano in New Mexico?!?! WOW!!! Who'd a thunk it... :smirk:

Basil, when's the last time it snow there (any significant amount)?

Wow, I bet drivers go nuts over that!

Just got back from grabbing lunch

1 people are freaking stupid 2 feet of snow with higher drifts does not mean your sedan will get through it. Trying to follow my truck which struggled to get through it is even dumber.

2 just because I have a winch on the front of my truck does not mean I will pull you out because you tried to do the impossible. If I dont know you it's not going to happen. I will let you use my phone to call a tow truck or give you a ride to a warm place.

3 To the guy riding the older bmw motorcycle with the side car out in this weather you are now my hero.

Probably a Ural motorbike, those Russian ones that they still make... I'm told that they are excellent in the snow, something about the extra traction of the side car.

Here in Calgary we have our cold snap right now, got a bunch of snow on Friday (took me two hours to get home from work! usually takes half-an-hour...) Now it's just cold, and looks like it will stay cold right through to Christmas, ah well...

Most, if not all Urals have a driven sidecar wheel that can be engaged for off-road use. On snow I'm sure it probably helps quite a bit.

The guy in my photo, is my friend's son, I'm told his Ural is his only vehicle, and that he drives it year-round (including winter) as a daily driver

New Mexico's nice warm desert?!!

I once lived in Socorro. We used to tell newcomers that there's nothing between them and Canada but a couple of barbed-wire fences. Still, it could get way below zero at night, then hit 60 midday. Coldest temperature I ever experienced, 15 below, was in Socorro. Those light snows were par for the course, too.

This week in the LA area: 55F right now, and we are supposed to get heavy rain tomorrow, snow in the mountains. I would have taken out the Bugeye anyway, but my clutch-foot ankle is giving me trouble again. Sigh.

Hey, that's no more than a light dusting....

We have had 17+ inches of the white stuff on the ground, three more than the average for the month of December, and we aren't halfway through the month yet. This weekend has seen warmer temps, which has reduced the level still down on the ground, but it will freeze again overnight which will make for an interesting commute to work for some tomorrow.

Forecast is for some 140 inches over the course of the winter. Yippee.

When a friend of ours retired he moved to Wisconsin and loves it. He puts skis on his airplane and flies all winter. Heck - some of the guys in the airplane club are happy as can be that it's finally winter, they get to land on the frozen lakes and dig out their skis too. One of 'em is from Tampa and just moved to Anchorage - I doubt we'll ever see him back here, he's loving it.

Here was a slightly better early snow last year:
