Mazda RX8 Seats

Hi all, has anybody ever attempted to fit Mazda RX8 seats to their LBC?
I'm looking at a manual set here at work and thinking about my Spitty or the 8.
Thanks Tom

shoulder room to the soft top, and seat width to the rear of the floor pan.

I'd be interested to know how they fit.

No problem in the Wedgy. Pretty tight in the Spitty

Well i'm darn sure hoping they fit in the spitty...........
the seats in the 8 are only a couple of years old
tom

I think the Mazda seats are pretty wide

Sabot, regarding Spitfires/GT6s, the seat may fit the car, but will the seat fit you?

The Spit seat really hugs the floor pans, it's a very low design. Depending on your height and inseam length, other, non-stock seats will render your seated position too high. Or, if you're, ummm, a wide person the Mazda seat may cause your leg to cramp very uncomfortably against the gearbox tunnel.

Don't make the mistake of purchasing "foreign" seats for your Spit or GT6 without careful research. They may not fit your body type.

FWIW, YMMV. :yesnod:

AAAH, the best part about these seats, beside the price, was that they are returnable.
If i can get my better half to help with the picture's and posting one, we'll all get to see what they look like.

If you take one of the original seats apart, you see why the hassle.

I have a picture somewhere of the bare frame, and it's really obvious how the seat back is offset over the center tunnel. It gets the headrest out of the way of the soft top frame.

The seat bottom actually goes through the frame and all but sits on the floor. The inboard rail of which ever seat you are in is almost directly underneath the corresponding butt cheek, while the other side the frame is well outboard.

As far as I know the Spitfire seats, and perhaps the GT6 seats are the only ones made in such a fashion.

I can just imagine the engineers sitting there in 1961 going "How the H-E- double hockey stick are we going to fit anything to sit on in there?

Personally I think with other seats in there you wind up more mashed against the door than the tunnel.

I rebuilt mine. Most expensive part of the project.

TR6 seats are Driver/Passenger specific as well for much the same reason. They essentially tilt inward to clear the soft top and shoulder belts.

I remember one time my husband installed some 20th century ford focus seats in a 1992 mercury capri (practically a FWD miata) They fit, but you sat much higher up. Anyone 6ft or taller would need driving goggles. If anyone remembers the Wheeler Dealer episode where Ed China drives a spitfire, thats pretty much what it looked like. So even if they fit, and you can close the doors, the seat may be designed to sit higher.

How did the RX8 seats work out? Did the fit in the spit? I have a TR6 - do you think they will fit?

Hey - welcome!

Miata seats in a TR6 is pretty well covered ground. They fit, and there is documentation on all the how-to's.

I'd love to see some pictures and measurements of the tracks if possible. I have the Miata seats in the TR6, but I'd like to put a set of these in the TR8.

Problem with the 8 seats. Still fairly new to get a good deal on.
