I get why this seems funny but the irony is, using both lanes and then taking turns merging at the front of the line is actually the most efficient way to keep traffic flowing, but most people have no idea about "zipper merge." Some states have tried (with limited success) to educate drivers, but paradigms and life-long habits are hard to change.

IMHO, technically, "One" is the ordinal and can be ended with the -th, -st or about any of the descriptors for such. "20" of something would be cardinal, "1" as ordinal. "One of twenty" as it were.

Agreed!

Folks say Boston drivers are jerks, but I can only say that of all the places I’ve lived (Midwest, South, Northeast), drivers are the best here.

Perfect? Far from it - there is a reason the nickname for MA drivers includes your lower anatomy… speed limits?? We don’t need no stinkin’ speed limits!

What I didn't like about driving in Boston was multiple drivers driving through the intersection after the traffic light turned red. Preferred taking the 'T'.
Around here, California stops are the general rule. Turn signals are apparently optional equipment. Keep left, except to pass is the norm on the interstates. Passing on a solid line isn't unusual.
 
I broke my cardinal rule last weekend and drove down to Santa Cruz to help my sister with a project.
Didn't get more than a few miles down HW 1 and some tourist in a Lexus SUV actually drove me off the road.
After that had many RVs and trailered vehicles were doing 30 in a 55 with 5 or more cars being held up.
Now, there will be no weekend trips to Santa Cruz unless it's a real life or death reason.
