MGC Maybe selling the 69 MGC GT - what's it worth?

Aside from my emotional connection to the car, what would be the value of the brooding hulk?

It's a rust bucket for sure and though it has the right bits in the engine & drive train the rest is pretty bad off.

Still, I've got this new love in my life and she needs some parts to make her whole so I'm considering what I've got that I can sell to provide for my new little British car.

(my new lbc)

Rick...it shrunk...My MGCs are a lot larger than the one pictured in your post.

Hard to say on the value...do you have the bonnet..boosters...emissions....is it an O/D car...etc...

If it is complete...perhaps $1000 or so....value of the parts.

Thanks Rick, I just thought I'd show everyone my new baby.

I guess if I took the car apart I might do a little better on the parts but then I'd have all that time & effort into it. I'm going to have to consider this more.

Do you have a couple of photos to refresh our memories?

heheheh...

(that's a beer keg, that was before I got the fridge)

It's been empty for a while, so that I can lose a bit of the thickness around the middle.

First, I'll give you $100 for the steering wheel; $250 for the hood (its been dented badly & bondo-ed) and $50 for the valve cover.
--------------
Now, those 'chicklet' seat frames (if not badly rusted) are worth $40 - $50 each; the 15" wires (if straight) are worth $50 apiece; bumpers look straight & are chromable so, $30-or so apiece; some of the GT-only brightwork is good &, if new would be expensive...so, if its not dented you should be able to get $100-or-so for everything above the beltline.....I couldn't see enough of the front suspension & torsion bars to see if they are good but, if so, they're worth a few bucks.

But, the entire car? Unless somebody wants to do what I've just described, not worth alot.

And the transmission.....and the MGC differential....etc.etc.etc.

Is it an OD trans?

Yep, the differential, if good, is worth $100-$150.

Part it out & scrap the rust - that's where you'll get your best return.

And you've already got my shopping list!

That MGC diff is worth more than $150....especially if it's a 3.07 or a 3.31.

I just sold a 3.07 C&P gearset for more than that.

Overdrive transmission never gave me any trouble.

"Was running when parked"

Maybe I'll try Craigslist and Kiiji and see if someone wants the whole car first.
I agree the most money I could get would be in parting it out, but just in case there's someone out there who really wants it all...

Ok, it's up on CL & KIIJI.
Maybe someone will want it, maybe not.
Doesn't cost anything to find out

Got a link to these?

If you decide to part it out, remember my list.....good luck!

I just sold it after only a week on Craigslist.
A guy came up from Oregon for it.
I did throw in some good spare parts. The guy sounds like he's going to restore it instead of break it so that pleased me.

Lot's of work to restore as well as cost, but a neat foundation to build on. I loved my '69 and wish I never would have separated with it! :thirsty:
