HI All!

I was questioned about travel time and distances to some locations by friends and I needed help.
I did a search and came up with a website called " Travel Math" it will tell you all about driving or flying to just about anywhere. If you need that data just search " Travel Math "

I'm really skeptical about that Onion article--I really think it must be fake news!!! I can't believe that more than 50% of high school kids can recognize math!

Oh, and you can get travel-time estimates from Google Maps, too.

Always amazes me when people say they're useless at maths and think its humorous. Would they think it was just as acceptable to say I can't read?

Sadly, I think it is part of the current wave of anti-intellectualism. [no political message intended]

If they can't read and are good at math, they can use sine language.

LOL You guys are a triggy lot.

It took me 4 years to pass 2 years of algebra. Totally useless unless you're an engineer. Quadratic equations, etc. X + Y =?? Answer - who cares. Yet I passed my pilot written test with the highest mark in the class. Weight and balance problems, time and distance. Why? Because it was relevant. Math in this country anyway is taught all wrong. It should be taught with practical examples any student can relate to, not a bunch of theories and formulas. I'll get off my soapbox now...

Geometry, rather than algebra, but one of my favorites:

Some people might say ... math may not seem useful while you're learning it, but you're training and expanding your brain just trying to learn it.

See how it helped this guy!

Naw they are proficient in Propositional Calculus.:highly_amused:

Depending on what you want to do in life, even of you don't use it advanced math can be useful in teaching the brain that type of thinking as a process. However, those who can't do basic math are the ones I fear for. Stopped at a convenience store one day and picked up a couple things. Handed the guy a $10. Next thing I hear is "oops". When I asked he said he put in $20 to the register instead. Told him not to worry, just keep $10 of the change and it would work out ok. He told me he needed to figure it out himself as I "might be trying to cheat him". So out came the paper, pen and calculator. Five minutes later I ended up with $9 and some change back rather than the $6 and change it should have been. Tried to explain, wouldn't listen since he'd "worked it out". So I did my share and he was your basic moron....

Time for this classic
