Master cylinder

I will be replacing the brake master cylinder on my 74 gt. Looks like fun. Do I have to remove the metal bracket that it along with clutch master is bolted to. Does not look like enough room for it to slip out over top of bracket. Just looking for some tricks from some one who has been this route.

I rebuilt my master cylinder last year and that was the only way that I could do it.

im not quite sure how yours looks but on my 79 i got a cheep wrench(half inch i think) and cut it in half to fit the nut closest to the inner fender. nothing else would fit.

Adam's got that right. Cussed a lot if I remember. If the cylinder is pitted at all then get new rather than rebuild if at all possible or you will be doing it again too soon. I went new on both brake and clutch m/c at advice of BBS and mechanic friends.

That is what I was afraid of, I do have a new, not rebuilt master en route, and the clutch master looks newer and is dry under boot or I would replace at same time. Ouch the new masters are not cheep. almost $200 with freight. I will sprinkle a little holy water on it before I start

You might want to order new seals for the pedal cover too...while you have everything off, because the seal goes under the pedal pivot bracket and is a pain to change when your feet suddenly start getting wet...I think it costs less than $5 for both seals.
