Master Cylinder Rebuild

I am rebuilding the brake and clutch master cylinders on my 59 TR3. The manual calls for replacing the "end seal" and the rebuild kit came with the seal. However, neither of my master cylinders had a seal to begin with and I am not sure where it goes. The diagram shows it on the end of the plunger, but my plunger does not have a cut out for one. Am I missing something?

Thanks.

Is it more or less just an o-ring? ISTR at some point around 1960 or so, Girling eliminated that o-ring (and the corresponding groove in the piston), apparently deeming it redundant? It's been awhile since I've seen a rebuild kit with that ring.

Yup, just as Andy says. If your piston doesn't have the groove, then just throw the seal away (or list it on eBay  )
