Master Cylinder leakmop

Does anyone else do this, or is it just me? :confuse:

My MC has a small intermittant leak from the pushrod seal. Probably a slightly scored bore from when it was rebuilt. It only leaks an ounce or so every six months, resulting in an ocassional annoying drip on my shoe. Here's my fix:

I take a paper towel sheet, fold it in half, then in eighths, and jam it loosely in the pedal box behind the springs. It catches the drips. When the paper towel becomes saturated (every 4-6 months, for me), just replace it and top off the MC.

Haven't ruined a shoe since. :thumbsup:

Problem is, in addition to the pedal box drips on the floor mat, MC leaks will drain down to the front of the pedal box, just below the air cleaner. Only place on my whole car where the paint is ugly.

New master cylinder installed, hopefully the leaks are over (<span style="font-style: italic">hopefully</span>). :madder:

This is what years of neglect look like. Don't believe the 4 PO's ever addressed the problem. It's not a fun job, but pulling the M/C's and pedal box can make a big improvement.
Certainly worth the effort.
