Is there a way to tell from the outside whether the MC on my car (Bugeye) is a drum or disc brake version?

I'd like to order the rebuild kit and get it before I take the MC off the car.

(I can't remember whether or not we changed to the disc brake version 20 years ago when we went to disc brakes).

Can you read the number cast onto the side?
 
I'll have to take a look, it's been painted and the leaking fluid has made the paint pretty gooey.

Should I be able to see the number with the MC still in the pedal box? And is the number a part number?

Nothing easy. The drum brake cars used different pushrods than the disc brake cars. I can't tell you off hand which are longer, I *think* the drum brake are longer, but I also don't think you can tell the difference on the car.

Nope, I don't think you can see numbers while it is in the box. If it has sat that long, it might be prudent to take it apart and inspect it anyway. Sorry, I'm not much help.

And if you have it out, you can loosen the two screws holding the front cover on and measure the bores to see if it is 3/4" or 7/8"! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/thumbsup.gif

PS Just loosen the screws, do not remove them all the way, or only remove one, and that will retain the plungers in the bores! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif
