I ran across a web site of old race tracks, one being Marlboro race track not far from were I grew up & now live. The web site is www.barcboys.com & when you enter it & click on Marlboro race track then go thru the pictures, especially the misc. pictures there are some Healeys at full song mixing it up with other sports cars. I thought it was really neat because & have been to that track back in the day & saw some great racing there.

Great film, some interesting cars racing there. A couple of Daimler Darts for instance. What was the winning, rear engined car? Is it French or Italian?
 
I spent a summer living nearby in 1967 and began as a flagman and pit marshall (I had Horst Kwech's [Alfa] pit for a Trans Am under 2 liter race which he won). In 1969 I started racing an MGB and raced at Marlboro. It was a fun and unusual track. The start was a standing start on the oval leading into the start finish line.

Yes, I have visited the track a few times.

Several years back I was chased off the facility by someone who was operating a plant nursery adjacent to what is left of the grandstands. A few months ago I was thwarted from gaining any entrance by a new fence and gate but there was no evidence of anything else going on.

Last year someone created this promising website--https://www.marlbororacewayevents.com/--but that seems to have been the extent of his efforts as despite several attempts on my part to make contact no one ever answered an email or returned a phone call. Needless to say the promised activities do not seem to have taken place.

I don't think that the tract of land is a likely candidate for development of any kind as it is adjacent to a wetland and located on a flood plain. Several adjacent facilities--car dealerships and the like--were actually underwater a few years back as a result of storm-related flooding and have since relocated. Because of this I doubt that anyone could obtain necessary permits without lots of filling, grading, etc. and maybe not even then. Also the area is rather run-down and beyond the substantial county government buildings and the equestrian facility located in Upper Marlboro not much is going on.

I'll digress a bit here by reporting that adjacent to the track access road is "Maude Savoy Brown Road" which piqued my interest as I was always a big fan of the English Blues Band of the same name (minus the "Maude"). A bit of internet sleuthing reveals that its title has no musical connection and in fact it is named after now-deceased Maude "Big Mama" Savoy Brown, a local legend who died a few years back. So far as I know the band is still making music and Kim Simmonds is still the front man though he must be getting up in years.
 
Nothing that a D8 or a motor scraper could not put right, - along with a Barber Green and a few tons of black top and very deep pockets.

Looked to be good in its day, I wonder if some one will take it on as a track once more?
