I could eat a dozen of 'em (but won't). Raised doughnuts with fillings of custard, blueberry, raspberry, apple, lemon, pineapple, oh yeah!

And a giant cup of cafe' au lait made with Community Coffee.

Can't get any better than that! (except maybe with some beignets ...)

You won't fit in the Humber!

SWMBO just found a recipe for banana-buttermilk beignets. Understand that is the "hot thing" in N.O. these days.

No idea but that wouldn't surprise me. N.O is no longer N.O and has become something else entirely. Glad to have lived there when it was still N.O.

New Orleans, 1973, Kodachrome slide, it somehow made it's way to Calgary... :rolleye:

Wow - I feel the same about just about every place I've lived or visited. eek

By the way we had a king cake delivered yesterday from Haydel's to celebrate. Mardi Gras '69 was our first date. (Blind date at that!) Thinking about a 50th anniversary repeat in a few years.

Yeah, even though it's hard to except at times, it's supposedly called progress. Met my wife in Olathe Kansas in 1956, married in 57. We went back there 15 years later and could not believe the changes. The town was originally centered by the court house in block form as most old Western towns were, we had a hard time finding the court house do to the building boom. A town between Olathe and KC was gobbled up by KC and Olathe expanding almost into one. All we have is fond memories. :encouragement: PJ

No, the culture is different now, it's been gentrified. The Popeye's on Magazine is now gone too. I mean, WTH?! (IIRC that was a "lava rock" Popeye's, Mickey knows what I'm talking about).

It's becoming Californicated as well. They're building stuff that doesn't belong there. I mean, I dig it to some extent but the feel is gone. Then again no one could ever expect it to be the same after Katrina but I never expected "Hunger Games Fabulous" either. I'm all for sophistication Uptown, but it better have a soul.
