Manifold studs

Do any of you wise sages have tips for removing nuts from maniold suds. The studs came out with ease, but I would like to get the nuts off before reinstalling my manifolds. My cars is a '79 midget.

Thanks,

Morris

Soak the stud/nut in penetrating oil, double nut the end of the stud that goes into the block, put a wrench on the nut you want to remove and one on the middle nut and loosen, once the stubborn nut is removed, unlock and remove the other nuts. I'd also recommend replacing the nuts with copper or bronze to make removal easier next time.

Seconded! Bronze nuts and ~anti-sieze"! And as aside: All penetrants are NOT the same.... PB Blaster left to soak is a really good one. May take two soakings, but you've got a good chance of success with that stuff. WD-40 is for the kids' roller skates. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

heh... Or "Holt's GunGum"!

Tho I've not actually used it since me youth: lessons learned. Copa Slip is FAR superior /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

If I have nut trouble I will have to come back here for a fix. (Reference to my recent "donut" post). /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/lol.gif

Hmmmm. I tried this technique and I nearly ruined the threads on the double nut end. What do you guys think about hitting the nuts with heat from a torch, then trying again?

MORE WeaselPee (PBBlaster)! Fire extinguisher to-the-ready, and propane torch only. Lotsa patience.
