TR2/3/3A manifold studs..locktite or antiseize

Hi Folks.. getting ready to install the manifolds on my tr3a with all new studs. So, do I want the studs to stay in or come out? Thanks

I'd put a little antiseize on them. I don't like using loctite on something like this--the blue stuff won't take the temperature, and if you use the red, high-temperature stuff, you'll have quite a job if you ever need to replace the stud. If the stud is screwed all the way home, and the nut is properly torqued, it won't come loose.

Thank you sir..That makes sense. Do you torque the stud or just the nut?

The purpose of torquing is to stretch the fastener so that enough pressure is applied to the mating surfaces. It is not to seat threads. You only need to torque the nut.

Thanks Bob.. Never thought of it quite like that. So, bottom the stud just snug and that's it

Yes, Bob's quite right. Also, since you are tightening it against a rather thick, soft gasket, it's not a bad idea to retorque the manifold nuts after a few hours of use.
