Manifold Stud size

Hello,
New guy here. I recently purchased a 65 Sprite and am in the middle of replacing the header. I had some difficulty removing a few of the manifold studs. I would like to run a tap into each of the holes in the head but am unsure of the size. Does anyone know what the correct size would be? Thanks in advance and standby for more dumb questions.

Jeff

Welcome Jeff! The head is tapped for 5/16 x 24 UNF threads on the manifold side. Use a bottoming tap and a light oil. Then clean out with some compressed air.

There are no dumb questions. We all started out as newbies at some point. There is a world of wisdom here and many ways to get the same or equivalent result. Ask the question, review the responses and then pick the one you favor for your situation. Some may mean more work than you had in mind, but the answers are usually pretty darn good.

Thanks Mike. That's the dimension I got when I measured the existing studs. The Tap I have just would not start easily into a few of the holes and I did not want to force it if it was incorrect.

Welcome Jeff
There are a bunch of us Spridget owners in the Puget Sound area.
Hopefully we will get together this summer a time or two.

Bill,
I would like that. Just let me know when and where. This is my first British car so I have lots of questions.

Thanks
Jeff

First British car? Better get one of those oil absorbing mats for the garage floor. Welcome, Jim
