manifold removal problem

Ran into my first problem removing head. At least 2 exhaust manifold nuts are blocked by the intake manifold - in fact one of the studs is coming out with the nut. I unscrewed the 3 long bolts at the top of the intake manifold - they are loose but complete removal is blocked by the carbs but they'll slide out with the manifold removal - but there must be more bolts or nuts holding the intake manifold because it won't budge when I try to lever it off. I see a little give at the top which leads me to believe that there are more bolts on the bottom. I looked at the Roadster Factory manual but it doesn't show how many bolts there are. My question is: how many intake manifold bolts/nuts are there and what's the best way to get at the bottom ones that I assume are there?

Sorry, don't recall what model you have, but the TR2-4 have a connection between the intake and exhaust manifold.

Sorry - thought everyone knew I have a TR6. I keep forgetting to mention that. I'll try to check out the underside of the manifold.

Tip: You can add that to your signature.

I don't think the TR6 has that same connection, so hopefully a TR6 expert will chime in.

PD-If you have the new manifold gasket (it is shown in the TRF cat.plate AF), that should give you an idea of where the studs are. Also, I think you will have to remove the carbs and at least disconnect the water pipe that screws into the water pump housing. I just r&r the head about 2 months ago, so it is still fresh in my mind. If the head hasn't been removed in many years, it will be a challenge. Some of the studs will be firmly corroded to the head. Try to double nut and remove as many of the studs as possible and resort to the rope trick if necessary to free the head. Cleaning the studs and applying an anti-seize compound will make future removal much easier. Unlike the 4 cyl engines, the Tr6 intake&exhaust manifolds are not bolted together. Berry

Good thinking. I inherited a manifold gasket when I bought the car 16 years ago. It's been sitting in the garage awaiting its moment. I'll check it out. Thanks.
