Aloha all,

I need to replace a leaking exhaust/intake manifold gasket. I have the new one on hand. Does it matter which side goes against the engine? Both sides are of the same material, however oneside is concave and the other convex in shape. Thanks in advance for the help.

Safety Fast,
Dave

Dave,

I think the concave feature you are refering to is just a function of the big press that stamped the gasket out. However, I've been wrong before.

Aloha Steve,

I think you are right, mahalo (thanks). Previous gaskets I've used had one side with a perforated metal facing and the other with just the gasket material. I had always assumed the metal side went against the head.

Safety fast,
Dave

Good assumtion .. that way of you have to take off the manifold you dont have to spend a year bent over the bonnet scrapping gasket material off the head.
